Road Warriors

I realized a few days ago that I never blogged about the 48 hour trip to Florida that Henry, Viv, my dad and I took in early March. It was Maxwell's spring break and the Warriors were playing in a tournament in Orlando. From Prattville, Orlando is only about 8 hours, which when the standard to drive and see Maxwell is typically 16 hours, 8 seems really easy. So we went. Eight hours there. We were with Maxwell for about 6 hours and then 8 hours home the next day. Crazy? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely!

We got to the field when the team was already out warming up so we gave Maxwell the little low-key wave but we weren't able to talk to him until after the game. My dad, Henry and Vivian stayed in the car while I got out to meet Maxwell near the bus, and as he started walking toward me I realized that he was crying. I could see his shoulders shaking a bit and he had his head held down, looking at the ground but coming toward me he just said, "Mom". Honestly, I thought he was hurt so once he got to me and hugged me I asked him what was wrong. All he said was, "I just missed y'all so much". He just missed us and couldn't hold it in.

Right in the feels.
One of the moms made everyone stop so that
she could grab her son's phone and take this picture...

After lunch, we went back to the hotel to hang out for a bit before Henry and Maxwell went to the lax house for a few hours. We weren't in the hotel but for 20 minutes before Maxwell, Henry and Vivian had themselves holed up in one of the bedrooms. They laughed and yelled and wrestled and took pictures -- just the three of them. The whole time they were in there together, my dad and I just sat in the living room and laughed about how funny they were. How all three of them probably needed to soak up that time together more than they needed anything else.

The next day, once we were already home, we got a pretty interesting story from Henry, although probably not the whole story as he would never  sell anyone out. Apparently, early that morning Maxwell sent Henry a text that started with, "so this is terrifying". Once Hen was filled in he went to google to research how to get through TSA if you lost your ID. Who would've thought that the little brother, Pablo (as the entire Warrior lax team now refers to Henry), could be the "fixer"?? Needless to say, all lacrosse players were on the flight home and safely delivered to Willpo.
This is the first snap we got from Maxwell once he got back to school...
it's hard to believe that in four days he'll be done with his first year of college!

GOTR Girl

Yesterday was Viv's practice 5K for Girls on the Run. She finished third on her team with a time of 33:16, almost three minutes faster than her time in the fall! Two more weeks until the real race day and she's determined to beat her practice time! Coming from a family on non-runners, this girl is killing it!!
Lap 1 of 12...

She's ready for May 4th!

The Short Story - 2 Years

Wow. It's hard to believe it's been two years since Henry started treatment for Human Growth Hormone Deficiency. When we first heard that this would be a three-year process we were a little overwhelmed. I mean, three years is longer than most of our recent assignments so it seemed like forever at first. We were also told at that time that we should expect the most growth in the first year and then not to be surprised if things started to slow down after that. This last year we've been expecting the slow down. Waiting for the slow down. Turns out, there was no slow down. This kid is growing like a bad weed and doesn't show signs of stopping. In just the last six months, it feels like Henry's grown into a young man, and it's not just his height. Physically, he's stronger and leaner than he ever has been and his confidence, self-assuredness and self-awareness are growing every day.

Having pride in Henry comes so easily to me, but it doesn't always come easy to him. These days though, I can see that he's proud of himself. He's proud of his own hard work, and as a mom, I can't ask for anything more.

Oceans 11 Weekend

Destin last weekend...7 more weeks and we'll be calling it home for good (ish)

AWC Seminar 11...
the Oceans 11 nickname seems even more appropriate!

The t-shirt/ice cream guy is Viv's favorite!

I bet a kayak will be on Viv's Christmas list this year...
...a boat might be on Henry's...
Going out to see the Camp Pinchot house...
it's the white in the upper right
Home for the next two years!

Got some fishing in before we headed home...

Spring Break 2019

I don't think we could have packed anything more into this years spring break. Henry, Viv and I spent the week in Virginia with our old 22308 friends and it felt just like home! Toward the end of the week Matt met up with us (AFTER he met up with buddies for the Nats opening day game) and then we got the band back together in Williamsport! We watched the Warriors absolutely kill it in a come from behind win, Matt finally got a Lyco campus tour and Henry got (yet another) crash course in college life.
Our first stop...
Del Ray Pizza, of course
Nate and Henry....it's ridiculous but this is the one
and only picture I got of Henry with any of his buddies...
Viv and AB...
fifth grade girls are much easier to get pictures of!

Just a couple hours after this pic....
...there was this...
a trip to Urgent Care thanks to spiking a fever and puking in my
LL Bean tote bag in the backseat of the rental the car...
good times
48 hours later and Viv wasn't feeling her best but she
pushed through to go back to her old stomping grounds

Viv's old girl scout troop...
it was like three years hadn't ever passed!
The one touristy thing Viv and Hen wanted to do was go to Air & Space...
this picture was especially for Grandpa!

Thank goodness for naps in the car
Thursday and her real smile and spunk was finally back!

Getting some fresh air along the GW pathway...

I know I've said it before but this was THE MOST EXCITING lax game I've ever seen!
For real this time!!
#dos
I think that Vivian might take after me in the excitement department!

Maxwell was so excited to be in his first dog pile!!

Hanson party of 5

Postgame celebratory dinner with Maxwell
and a couple of his freshman teammates and good buddies
(and more than likely roommates next year)

And then the weekend was over...
My mom was the first one to tell me that saying good-bye
to your kids never gets easier...
 and she was right.
