Viv's Firsts

Last week was a big week for Viv! She was inducted in the National Junior Beta Club, which is kind of like the southern version of the National Junior Honor Society. I had no idea that the south takes this really seriously. I mean like,  football, seriously. Apparently, all of the kids were expected to dress up. Sunday best dresses for the girls and suits and bow ties for the boys.

Viv went in leggings and a t-shirt. Oops.
Here she is smiling in her leggings and t-shirt...a picture sent to me by a friend because like the dress code thing, I didn't know parents were invited to attend.

I'll be expecting my Mom of the Year award any day now.

Next up was her first school dance!
Viv just knew this was going to be the best night, or at least hour and a half, ever. She had a new dress, new booties, new lip gloss and a plan. She and another little girlfriend were going to meet in the lobby of the school and go into the dance together. When we got inside, Viv took her money out of her purse and bought her own ticket. I wasn't nervous at all until that moment. She said, "ok, I'm going in!" She was totally fine with going into the school by herself to meet her friend. I asked her if she was sure. If she didn't want to wait for the other couple of girls behind her in line (that she kind of knew) so that they could all walk in together. Nope. She was fine. She had her ticket and her pizza money and she was going in by herself to find her friend. And off she went. What I wouldn't do for just one ounce of my girls confidence!
